Mojo Filter - Oakland, California Somali/Abyssinian April 20, 1996 – June 1, 2009 Diagnosed with IBD on March 9, 2009 Diagnosed with Stomach Cancer on May 30, 2009
|
2/19/09 - Vomiting, weight loss, and dehydration. Heart murmur heard but not diagnosed.
UA and fluid therapy. Vaccine updates decided unnecessary.
3/7/09 - Letter from vet explained symptoms likely of "mild" IBD.
3/17/09 - Continued symptoms and food rejection despite hunger; metronidazole prescribed with Pepcid.
3/31/09 - Continued weight loss and dehydration. Ultrasound to abdomen reveals thickened
stomach/intestines; underlying lymphoma suspected. Fluid therapy with Rx of mirtazapine and sucralfate in
addition to metronidazole and Pepcid. Food switched to Hill's I/D from various over the counter, grain-free
canned foods.
4/7/09 - Re-check at vet for possible enima due to lack of bowel movements. Vet determines everything is
okay and infrequent bowel movements are due to low-residue Hill's I/D. Seems to be doing OK with
infrequent, but solid bowel movements. Eating fairly well on Hill's and medications. Mojo taken off of
sucralfate and mirtazapine.
4/11/09 - Oral vitamins were started at my request.
4/18/09 - Mojo began losing interest in Hill's I/D despite starting up mirtazapine again. Vet wants to try Hill's
Dry I/D and Mojo began vomiting again. Tried various raw foods and began force-feeding.
5/11/09 - Mojo lost more weight and was dehydrated. Started on raw food–Feline's Pride but still needed
force-feeding.
5/18/09 - Mojo severely dehydrated, taken to ER and new vet. Hospitalized overnight with IV fluids given.
Feline PLI test determined "borderline".
5/19/09 - Mojo began eating raw after rehydration gave good response. Taken off metronidazole and
prednisilone dose increased. At home B12 injections started.
5/27/09 - Re-check and subQ fluids administered. Mojo dehydrated again despite eating.
5/28/09 - Urine culture ordered. Kidney infection suspected due to increase in water consumption. At home
I/V fluids started.
5/30/09 - Mojo getting weaker. Taken to vet on ER basis again and ER ultrasound performed. Urine culture
negative. Ultrasound reveals inoperable mass in stomach not seen on original ultrasound 2 months prior, as
well as mottled metastatic growth to liver and surrounding lymph nodes. Euthanasia was determined best
after fluids administered.
5/31/09 - Mojo had relatively good and alert day in garden.
6/1/09 - Mojo obviously weakened from day before. Euthanasia was administered in the evening at home.
